Sing to the LORD – By: Janaya Richards

Do you ever find yourself so overwhelmed with God’s goodness, greatness, and power that you just can’t help but shout out? Are you ever so in love with God that you just have to tell someone about how wonderful He is? Has God ever given you such a good day, that you can’t help but sing?

James 5:13 says, “Is anyone among you suffering? Let him pray. Is anyone cheerful? Let him sing praise!”

1 Chronicles 16: 23-4 repeats,
“Sing to the LORD, all the earth!
Tell of His salvation from day to day.
Declare His glory among the nations,
His marvelous works among all the peoples!”

In fact, we’re told ONE HUNDRED times throughout the Bible to “sing to Lord,” “shout for joy,” and to “Sing praises unto His name.”

Many hymn writers have evidenced their overflowing joy in Christ!

“I think of my blessed Redeemer, I think of Him all the daylong
I SING for I cannot be silent; His love is the theme of my song.”

“Sing to the LORD a new song, for He has done marvelous things!”

“When I consider the heavens above, the moon and the stars that Thou hast ordained,
When I consider Thy merciful love, how can I help but sing?”

“Since Christ is LORD of Heaven and earth,
How can I keep from singing?”

“When we’ve been there ten thousand years, bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise then when we’d first begun.”

How can we keep from singing?? Are we so unimpressed with God’s goodness and greatness? Do we not realize that “He has done marvelous things” (Ps. 98:1)? Why are we not filled with overflowing joy? Let’s pray that God would forgive us for our lack of praise. Pray that He would fill us with His goodness so that we “Shout for joy to the LORD!”
